Have you ever noticed that when you’re in doubt, procrastination is often not far behind?

Procrastination, when we delay or postpone something, is often given a bad rap. Sometimes quite fairly, but other times I believe it’s actually a good thing, and I’ll tell you why.

Sometimes we have a subconscious feeling about the thing we’re putting off, somewhere inside of you, it could be your brain, it could be in your gut, some intuition is telling you that something isn’t quite right.

It could be something you’ve agreed to without thinking which on reflection you’d rather not do. It could be a situation at work that’s making you uncomfortable, or even doubt around certain people and the time you spend with them.

That kind of doubt can be a useful sign, can stop you making mistakes or encourage you to make a more educated decision if you use it to make better choices.

And then of course there’s the procrastination we feel when we have to do hard things, things that are outside of our comfort zone or things that we just plain old don’t wanna do. I reckon we’re all pretty familiar with that side of procrastination.

The doubt that doing the thing is worth the effort. This doubt is holding you back from reaching your potential. Procrastination seldom leads anywhere good, take action even if it’s not in the right direction at least you’re not stuck in the same place.

The other big thing that shows up when you feel doubt is Imposter syndrome

I’ve been there, I’m sure you have too, and many successful people will admit to still having thoughts and feelings, around who are they to do this, deserve that, or teach the other. I’m still amazed by the amount of people who appear as though they have life under control that still doubt their abilities in some form or another.

We know imposter syndrome isn’t something that just disappears, it’s something we have to work at overcoming on a regular basis.

So what’s the best way to move through it and stop it fucking up your future?

Getting mega focused on what is important to you.

Did you know most of my clients who doubt themselves and their abilities are actually afraid of being judged. They are more afraid of the possible thoughts of others than they are about holding true to their own values, what’s most important to them.

We also tend to feel like an imposter when we focus entirely on ourselves, when we make stuff all about us, like we’re at the centre of the entire cosmos, instead of the teeny, tiny speck of energy and matter that we actually are.

To combat this, I’ve found that the best way is to instead focus on what’s important to you. That way it’s not just about you anymore, there’s a bigger picture.

You can concentrate on the impact you can bring, the lives you can change, the change you can effect by putting yourself out there and doing your thing.

Isn’t it more important to try, than to let fear and doubt hold you back?

Personally I think it is, and my drive to help others is thankfully starting to outweigh my fear of being judged because I recognise what’s most important to me.

And I want to help you recognise what’s most important to you too so you can awaken your focus and do all the cool shit that you were born to do.
